Amy established Janam Tea in 2004 to showcase the rich array of teas produced in India, which she experienced firsthand during her self-guided travels. She began developing her palate as a teenager and came to tea appreciation by way of wine and whiskey. In 1994, she graduated in Cinema & Photography from The Ohio State University and moved to New York to pursue a career as a video editor, but realized after 1998 that she was destined to explore Indian tea seriously as a subject matter.
Her extensive travels in India over multiple trips motivated her to open an e-commerce store in 2004, an Indian Tea Shop in 2005 (Jersey City, NJ), Janam Afternoon Tearoom in 2016 (New York, NY), and a showroom for fine teas, events, classes, gifts and Indian tea tourism in 2021 (Columbus, OH). She is the de facto Brand Ambassador on behalf of the Indian tea industry in the U.S.
